F2B. “Do Not Obey in Advance: Fascism and Resistance” Cinematic Representations
History & World Affairs | Registration opens 8/27/2025 9:00 AM
“Most of the power of authoritarianism is freely given. In times like these, individuals think ahead about what a more repressive government will want, and then offer themselves without being asked. A citizen who adapts in this way is teaching power what it can do.” (Timothy Snyder, On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century). It did happen here after all. Our focus is on how cinema around the world portrays fascism and the resistance to it. We will attempt to see two films each week. Only one will be assigned, and the other will be optional.
