Join us for an interactive visit to the Hessel Museum, where we look at modern art together and try to understand the “perception shift” that happens with different levels of influence. What do you think about a piece when you contemplate it silently? Does your perception change when you discuss it with others? What about the artist’s intent?

We will use the Hessel exhibit All Manner of Experiments: Legacies of the Baghdad Modern Art Group as a backdrop for our exploration. This groundbreaking exhibition looks at the burgeoning modernism of Iraqi artists and this group that flourished from the 1950’s to 1970’s. Most of these works are shown here in the United States for the first time. Featured artists wrestle with the need to honor Iraqi visual history with the call to create a modernist future.

How will you interpret this work? Let’s find out together!

This event is limited to 40 people, with member priority. You may request a “plus one” to be included if there is space available by contacting L. Walker.
