When a government moves towards autocracy and authoritarianism, how are citizens to reclaim and restore their democracy? Globally and historically, organized nonviolent protest, twice as often as violent protest, has been an effective weapon of resistance and change. This seminar-like course investigates civil resistance–what inspires it, historical examples, and ways it is conceived, developed, and implemented. Required weekly readings and videos are available online. This is a course for the fierce urgency of now.
