F2H. Biology of Noninfectious Diseases: Poisons Not Usually Encountered in Nature
Science,Tech,Econ & Math | Registration opens 2/25/2026 9:00 AM
A poison is any chemical that interacts with normal physiology to produce an undesirable, sometimes fatal effect. Last semester, we looked at poisons made by various organisms in the environment. This semester, we will look at poisons not usually encountered in nature, including elements such as mercury and arsenic, small molecules such as carbon monoxide and cyanide, and various synthetic compounds such as pesticides and fentanyl. Supplemental readings will be available before each class. No prerequisites. No previous background in science is required.
