F5A. Dostoevsky’s "Demons"
Literature & Writing | Registration opens 2/25/2026 9:00 AM
Dostoevsky’s Demons is a novel about a small Russian town shaken by political extremism and the collapse of moral order in 19th-century Russia. The course will examine not only Dostoevsky’s unique narrative style, but also how personal grievances, political ambition, radical ideas, and lack of conscience drive a Russian town and its citizens into chaos. The book is lengthy and will require you to read approximately 100 pages a week. No prior background is needed, just curiosity and an open mind about the novel and how timely it remains.
