F4C Around and About: The Art of Everyday Estimation

Science,Tech,Econ & Math | Registration opens 9/2/2026 12:00 AM

How many jellybeans are in a jar? How many t-shirts are purchased in New York City in a given year? In this interactive course, participants will calculate seemingly impossible quantities using logic, scientific reasoning, and educated approximations. They will develop practical estimation skills that can be applied to everyday life, exploring a variety of estimation techniques and strategies for checking the reasonableness of answers. Through engaging scenarios, photographs, and real-world challenges, participants will practice making and refining estimates while strengthening their quantitative reasoning skills. No advanced math is required—just curiosity and a willingness to take a good guess!

Note: This class meets four times: September 25, October 2, 9, and 16.
