This course explores the visions of leading figures shaping key programs and institutions at Bard College. 

  • Maestro Jindong Cai discusses the US-China Music Institute and East/West Ensemble, which foster cultural exchange through music. 

  • Jana Marlene Mader and Thomas Bartscherer highlight the Hannah Arendt Center’s commitment to critical political discourse. 

  • Jeffrey Lependorf presents the John Cage Trust as a source of ongoing creative experimentation. 

  • Artist Nayland Blake advocates for an interdisciplinary approach to studio art. 

  • Lauren Cornell examines contemporary art’s relationship to technology and global change through CCS Bard and the Hessel Museum. 

  • Gideon Lester and Christopher Gibbs discuss the Fisher Center’s future, including the new Maya Lin–designed arts facility.

Kornelia Tamm

Presenter
Kornelia Tamm (LLI) was born in Germany and has lived across Europe and the U.S., working in the arts and cultural institutions. A Bard literature graduate and Hudson Valley resident since 1997, she serves on the board of the Bard Conservatory and is active with the CCS Hessel Museum and the Fisher Center. With a lifelong passion for the arts and deep ties to Bard, she offers a unique, insider’s perspective on the college’s creative and institutional life.
