X5 Listening to the Enemy: An Artist-Guided Tour

Art, Music & Theater | Registration opens 9/2/2026 12:00 AM

Experience a one-day tour of Madeleine Segall-Marx’s thought-provoking art installation at her barn in Hyde Park, NY. Over a decade, the artist collected 25 accounts of global war from individuals labeled “the enemy,” transforming each story into a unique visual artwork. Explore the full collection online at Listening to the Enemy. The program begins in the house in the great room with an overview of the project’s origins and the companion narratives. Guests then walk to the nearby barn, where the artist personally guides the group, sharing the moving stories that inspired each piece. This immersive journey invites reflection on conflict, perspective, and our shared humanity through art.

Note: This class will meet in Hyde Park, NY, for one session on Tuesday, September 22.

Accessibility: The house’s great room has seating for all. There is a short walk on a grassy surface to the barn and a few stairs are required. The barn has limited seating for about 8.
