Buried History in Milton: A Walking Tour

10 AM, FRIDAY, MAY 16, 2025

(RAIN DATE MONDAY, MAY 19)

What can we learn about our history and our surroundings by prowling the streets and alleys of our river towns? On this walk, led by Bucknell History Professor Claire Campbell, we will explore some elements of downtown Milton, including fragments of infrastructure, streetscape architecture, and buried waterways. We'll use historic maps to try to imagine the character of our towns a century ago and consider the environmental legacy of the industrial era.

Professor Claire Campbell chairs Bucknell’s history department and has taught at universities across Canada and in Denmark in the areas of history, Canadian Studies, as well as Environment and Sustainability. Her research seeks to use environmental history to expand public history and discussions of sustainability and environmental policy. She focuses on preservation and interpretation of historic places, the role of the humanities in sustainability education, and historical inspirations for post-industrial society.
