Why did they erect their famous moai? Did they really exhaust their natural resources in a self destructive frenzy of monument building and civil war as some scholars would have us believe? Our understanding of the history of Rapa Nui has advanced greatly in recent years. This talk will explore the island, its monuments, and the tragic history of its people.
