Armchair Travel #5: My Father's Journey with Cindy Avery

Armchair Travel | Available (Membership Required)

Travel with Cindy Avery as she presents her father’s poignant journey from an idyllic childhood to a desolate prisoner of war camp deep in German-occupied Poland during World War II.

Drawing inspiration from her father’s favorite hymns and the need to preserve this important time—for her father, America, the world, and ultimately her family—Cindy has crafted an educational and moving slideshow to share from what she calls “her Covid project,” My Father’s Journey. After the presentation, she will leave plenty of time for Q&A and to browse some of the artifacts he brought back from his service.

Before moving to Lewisburg, Cindy wrote and published a book from her research.
"Writing My Father's Journey was a roller coaster ride. It was fun-filled and heart-wrenching. It was, at times, hard to write and even harder to read. The experience was highlighted by riding in a B-24 and occupying the pilot’s seat (once it landed!) in his honor.”

Cindy is a new resident of Lewisburg and member of BILL and is looking forward to meeting you.

  • The Armchair Travel slideshows provide our membership the chance to share a photographic journey to places, people and experiences, along with the stories and perspectives behind the encounters. You must be a current member to attend this free presentation.
  • If you are interested in Cindy's book, My Father's Journey, the library has a copy. It is also available to order online or from local booksellers. Cindy will have a small number of the book with her at the presentation, but only as a matter of convenience for those wanting to buy a copy. THERE IS NO OBLIGATION TO DO SO.
