734 The Road Not Taken: The Poetry of Robert Frost

One of America's most beloved poets, Frost is extremely accessible to poetry lovers and poetry-shy readers alike. With MaryJean, students will discuss approximately 40 of Robert Frost's poems (roughly five to seven per session), spanning the several decades of his work. After a brief overview of Frost's life, accomplishments and accolades, the class will read the poems aloud (both instructor and participant volunteers). Clips of Frost reading his own poems will also be shown. Participants will share their responses to the poetry individually and in small groups. The instructor will recommend a collection of Frost's poetry for students to buy or borrow, but will also provide pdf attachments with the poems for each session for participants who do not wish to purchase or borrow a collection of their own.
REQUIRED TEXT: Students will be given a schedule of the poems to be discussed; participants are expected to read them in preparation for each class. No specific text or edition is required, as most of Frost’s poems are in the public domain and widely accessible online or in numerous collections that can be purchased or borrowed. However, the instructor will be using The Poetry of Robert Frost: The Collected Poems, Complete and Unabridged, edited by Edward Connery Lathem (Henry Holt and Company, 1969).
MaryJean Moser
MARYJEAN MOSER graduated in 1973 with a bachelor’s in English from Muhlenberg College. She then taught high school English for six years in the Allentown area, after which she served for over two years in the Peace Corps in the Republic of Kiribati in the central Pacific. Upon returning to the United States, she began a 15-year corporate career in New Jersey and Pennsylvania with AT&T, Bell of Pa., and Bell Atlantic. She began her Bucknell career in 1997, first as supervisor of circulation at Bertrand Library and later as the field experience coordinator in Bucknell’s Department of Education. During her tenure at Bucknell, she earned a master of science in education, with emphasis on adult education.
