Lake Scranton Water Plant and Dam Tour

Join BILL members for a 1:30-4 p.m. guided tour of Lake Scranton. Bucknell alumni Loujin Naylor and Operation Managers James Tucker and Daniel Baratta will lead the group through a short presentation, a walk-through of the water treatment plant, and a guided visit toward the dam.

The Lake Scranton Water Treatment Plant treats water so it can be safely delivered to local customers. The visit will explain the process in plain language, including how water is cleaned, checked, and moved into the water system. The plant has been operating since June 1990 and can treat and deliver up to 33 million gallons of water per day.

Lake Scranton is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the Scranton area and serves as an important source of drinking water for local communities. The reservoir stores water that is treated at the nearby Lake Scranton Water Treatment Plant before being delivered to customers throughout the region. After touring the plant, we will enjoy a guided walk along a paved trail to the dam and learn how reservoirs help ensure a reliable water supply throughout the year: how water is collected, stored, monitored and protected, as well as the role dams play in supporting public water systems. We will also hear about Pennsylvania American Water's ongoing investments to maintain and improve the Lake Scranton system, including major upgrades to the masonry dam and spillway completed in recent years.

    BILL has arranged for a passenger bus (with bathroom) to pick our group up at the BILL office at noon on Sept. 9. The drive to the Lake Scranton facility should take about 90 minutes. There will be bottled beverages and a few snacks provided on the bus ride, and light refreshments will be served during the presentations at Lake Scranton. We plan to leave the area no later than 4:30 p.m., and hope to arrive back at the office around 6 p.m.

    Our group is limited to a maximum of 30 participants.

    Members will receive priority in registering until Aug. 16, after which date non-members may register for any seats still available.

    On Aug. 26, the total number registered will determine the final cost share for participants, and all registered will be sent an invoice for that amount. If you must cancel your reservation after noon on Aug. 26, please understand BILL cannot guarantee a refund/cancellation of the charge if we cannot fill your seat from a waitlist.
