The US first engages the German Army, in ground combat, in North Africa. “Operation Torch” is our initial offensive operation to wrest Europe back from Nazi domination (November 1942 – March 1943). Once the Germans are ejected from North Africa, the Allies invade Sicily in “Operation Husky” (July and August 1943), moving ever closer to the European continent. Finally, in September Allied forces invade Italy on “Operation Avalanche.” This course follows the campaign up the boot of Italy, until the end of WW II.
