Have you heard the words virtual reality (VR) and wondered, "What is virtual reality? What are the benefits and drawbacks?" Today, VR is being used to battle loneliness and isolation for older adults and help those with mobility issues “visit” bucket-list destinations. This course explores what VR is and the concept of using VR to make the outdoors accessible to different populations. Explore both the history and the future of VR and the implications of using VR in everyday life.
Olivia McAnirlin is a doctoral student at Clemson University in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management. She also manages Clemson's Virtual Reality and Nature Lab. Dr. Matthew Browning is an assistant professor at Clemson in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management. He also oversees Clemson's Virtual Reality and Nature Lab.
