Holiday Favorite: Rose's Potato Latkes (Pancakes)
Class | FULL (Membership Required)
Join us for a hands-on cooking class where you'll learn how to prepare crispy, golden potato latkes—an iconic dish of Hanukkah. We'll guide you through the steps of grating, seasoning, and frying the perfect latkes, all while discussing their cultural and historical significance. Latkes symbolize the miracle of the oil that burned for eight days in the Holy Temple, and during this class, you'll gain a deeper appreciation for this beloved tradition. Whether you're a seasoned chef or a beginner, this class will bring warmth, flavor, and festive spirit to your Hanukkah celebrations. As a bonus, we'll use egg whites to make a delicious batch of coconut macaroons! Don't forget to bring your favorite potato peeler!
Rose Schecter was born in New York to a family with deep Eastern European roots (Ashkenazi Jewish heritage). Her maternal grandmother, who survived the Warsaw Ghetto, was a cook who used empty jelly jars as makeshift measuring cups to create her dishes. Over the years, Rose has lovingly adapted her grandmother’s recipes, infusing them with her own creative touches. One of her family's traditions is making potato latkes for the holidays.
