Herb Preservation Basics
In-Person Class | Available (Membership Required)
Herb preservation is essential for extending the shelf life and potency of fresh herbs, ensuring their flavors and medicinal properties are available long after harvest. Basic methods include drying, freezing, and infusing. Drying can be done naturally by hanging bundles in a well-ventilated, dark area or using a dehydrator. Freezing herbs, often in ice cube trays with water or oil, locks in their fresh taste and nutrients. Infusing herbs in oils, vinegars, or alcohol creates flavorful extracts for culinary and therapeutic uses. Proper storage in airtight containers away from light and moisture is crucial for maintaining quality. This workshop will explore these techniques, providing practical tips and hands-on experience.
