Beginning Mah Jongg
In-Person Class | FULL (Membership Required)
Are you unsure about your American Mah Jongg abilities and hesitant to join our Tuesday Shared Interest Group (SIG)? We've got you covered with our Beginning Mah Jongg course designed to acquaint you with the essentials of American Mah Jongg. This isn't the Solitaire version you might play on your laptop. In this hands-on course, you'll delve into the basics, grasp terms like "crack, bams, and dots," understand concepts like doubleton and singleton and decode the meanings behind dragons, winds and flowers. During the course, you'll engage in practice matches with fellow players, master the art of "Charleston" and refine your gameplay with insights into the game's intricacies. After completing the course, you'll have the opportunity to join our weekly Tuesday Mah Jongg group where intermediate to advanced players gather to further their skills and enjoy the game together. To get the most out of the course, participants must commit to attending all four classes when they are offered.
Janice Dieter, Joan Servis and Sue Sprott are the OLLI Mah Jongg teaching team. Together, they have a combined over 2,000 hours of playing time.
