Your experience, skills, and wisdom are needed by many organizations, communities and groups– and
volunteering offers rewards that go far beyond giving back. Retirement provides the time and freedom to contribute meaningfully to causes you care about, whether that's mentoring young people, supporting local nonprofits, helping at food banks, or sharing your professional expertise with small businesses or fellow retirees. Many volunteers report that they receive far more than they give – forming new friendships, learning new skills, and discovering renewed energy and enthusiasm for life. All this while making a difference. Our panelists will share their volunteer experiences. They’ll discuss how they found suitable organizations, share the impact the work has had on the organizations and on themselves, and share what they wish they had known before they got started. Whether you can spare a few hours a month or want to dive into a more substantial commitment, this panel will help you find volunteer opportunities that enrich both your life and the lives of others.

Sharon Nagy is an anthropologist and Clemson’s associate provost for curricular innovation. While her day job has her building unique learning experiences for students, she fills her time with volunteer activities. She has sought out volunteer opportunities with organizations that can benefit from her professional skill set, as well as some that are simply fun! Sharon will enlist other active volunteers to join her for this panel. Expect an engaged and interactive session.
