Year-Round Vegetables: A Visit to Hurricane Creek Hydroponic Farm

Excursion | Registration opens Monday, December 15, 2025 9:00 AM

It’s been 15 years now, Hurricane Creek Farms continues to grow and sell quality hydroponic produce, pasture raised Angus beef, and stone-ground grits and cornmeal. Their success begins with their careful preservation and cultivation of several heritage corns, from which all their produce comes. Hydroponic gardening itself is fascinating, a soil-free method of growing plants in a synthetic soil whose only purpose is to protect the growing plant and convey to it an exact mix of nutrients. Hurricane Creek grows several types of lettuce year-round and tomatoes, bell peppers and cucumbers during the winter months. Their products are available at their farm, farmer's markets, and at restaurants and grocers in the Upstate. The tour will show the complete process for grinding corn for grits and cornmeal and provide an explanation of the greenhouse hydroponic produce systems.
