The Jocassee Gorges eco-region has drawn the attention of botanists from around the world since the 1700’s. Today the region is known for harboring an abundance of species, including rare plants such as the endemic wildflower Shortia galacifolia. Locally known as Oconee Bells, this diminutive wildflower was first discovered in Jocassee Valley. Join this popular 3-hour pontoon excursion on Lake Jocassee to explore the native habitat of Oconee bells and discover the secrets of why so many diverse and rare plants are found within the Jocassee Gorges.
