Flat Laurel Creek Hike
In-Person Class | Available (Membership Required)
Join us for a fun summer hiking adventure near the Blue Ridge Parkway! We'll explore the scenic Flat Laurel Creek Trail, an easy 2.6-mile hike through high-elevation forests, meadows, shrub heaths, and bogs. For those interested, we'll also have the option to hike the nearby Sam Knob Trail (1.2 miles round-trip), where breathtaking views await, including vistas of the Shining Rock and Middle Prong Wilderness areas and Devil's Courthouse. With elevations ranging from 5,406 to 6,706 feet, the cool mountain air of mid-July makes this a perfect time to enjoy one of the Southern Appalachians' most beautiful landscapes. Because of the popularity of the area, we'll start early to arrive before 10:00 a.m. and plan to leave in the early afternoon ahead of potential thunderstorms. A pit latrine is available at the trailhead. A detailed itinerary and trip information will be sent approximately one week before the hike.
