Course | Available (Membership Required)
Spencer Tracy has been called one of the best actors of Hollywood’s Golden Age. The American Film Institute put him at #9 as the greatest male star, and he was the first actor to win two consecutive Oscars. He was brimming over with talent and haunted by a legion of personal demons. In this class we’ll examine Tracy as an actor and a person through the lens of eight of classic films: Fury (1935); Libeled Lady (1936); Captains Courageous (1937); Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1941); State of the Union (1948); Bad Day at Black Rock (1955); The Last Hurrah (1958); and Inherit the Wind (1960).
