Searching for Planets in the Milky Way
Course | Registration opens 3/9/2026 7:00 AM PST
There are at least 100 billion stars in our Milky Way Galaxy. Because each star is a
sun, is our galaxy also full of planets? Only recently have astronomers had the
tools to answer this question. In the last few decades, well over 6000 planets have
been discovered orbiting nearby stars. In this session we'll explore how
astronomers search for planets outside our solar system, the truly astounding
variety of planets that have been discovered, and what these strange new worlds
are teaching us about our own planet and solar system.
