Prerequisite note: Registration in this course requires that members have previously participated in an LLC photography course.

This unique photography class will center around three location photography shoots interspersed with critique classes. Tentative location shoots will be in Newport, Cape Cod, and Block Island. These will be held on Saturday afternoons and, including travel, are expected to last a minimum of 4 hours. The afternoon hours will provide us with softer, more directional light. Students will be encouraged to produce a higher number of images than usual on each shoot in order to consider multiple points of view as well as to provide plenty of material to review in subsequent critique sessions. Each Saturday shoot will be followed by a Thursday class where we will review and critique our images.

Format: Students will submit photo prints to be critiqued at two in-class critique sessions per each location shoot. This will direct us to take an in-depth review of our work and will encourage us to consider different cropping decisions, black and white vs. color visions, and post processing options that might apply to the images we’ve brought back from our location work. At our final class, each student will share the photo book they created from their own selected images.

Resources/Expenses: Additional expenses will consist of travel (sometimes shared) and snacks or meals, as well as small photo prints available from Walmart, CVS, etc. A detailed course syllabus will include information on how we will manage the unique logistics and productions this course requires in order to make these challenging and rewarding photographic experiences.
