Have fun with opera by focusing on one aria at a time, listening for the distinctive qualities an individual singer brings to their performance. We’ll cover all of the voice types, dip into duets and ensembles and what productions we like in videos. The magic of opera is available to everyone no matter your experience.

Format: Participants choose an opera and one of its arias, including finding two to four videos of several singers to share with the class. Feel free to team up with another class member. You will provide a brief description of the opera and a summary of the text of the aria you’ve chosen. In class, we’ll listen to or view the performances you’ve chosen and then vote on which we like best. Soon after course registration, participants can lock in their choice of the opera and the voice type they wish to present. Choose either something you love like crazy or try something that stretches your comfort level. Don’t hesitate to delve into the old or contemporary if you can find at least two examples of the arias.

Resources/Expenses: The coordinator will provide plenty of assistance for your presentation, including technology. YouTube will be your most useful resource. No expenses.
