Media: Bulwark of Democracy or Enabler of its Demise?
Zoom Video Conference | Available (Membership Required)
The 2024 election outcome surprised, shocked, delighted, or depressed the American people and the world. The question is: Did our media work to educate the nation on the candidates and their plans and suitability for office or did it concentrate on building their numbers by reporting the most extreme and divisive issues? This course will look at what happened, what we need to understand and how to gauge the role of media in this time when traditional media, social media and influencers offer the public a cacophony of voices and the very concept of fact is under relentless attack.
Format: Participants will be asked either to make a presentation or lead a discussion from a list of topics provided by the Coordinators or another topic approved by the Coordinators.
Resources/Expenses: No expenses are anticipated. Access to the internet and local or national media is required.
