The Historical Novel Book Club 2025-2026

Zoom Video Conference | Registration opens 7/21/2025 9:00 AM

Meets on the last Monday of each month with a possible adjustment for holidays.

In this course we circle the globe with an international collection of novelists and characters. Our twelve monthly meetings will take place on Zoom from 1 to 3 PM on the last Monday of the month, with possible adjustment for holidays. Click here to view the course syllabus.

Format: Each meeting will be a group discussion of that month’s novel. Presentations will not be required. Each meeting will begin with one participant’s brief observations about the novel as well as questions meant to stimulate discussion.

Resources/Expenses: Expenses for Club members each month will be modest. Most readings will be available from public libraries, or else inexpensively from Amazon or other sources. No other expenses will be required.

Coordinators: Dennis Flavin and Bob Martin are experienced LLC coordinators each having coordinated many previous courses.

Dennis Flavin

Dennis Flavin has been an active member of LLC for several years and has co-coordinated Current Decisions (Summersession) and Great Decisions (Wintersession).

Robert Martin

Bob Martin received a B.A. degree in English at the University of Massachusetts/Amherst, and had a varied career as teacher, journalist, political activist and non-profit administrator. Bob has led previous courses on topics such as The Epic of Gilgamesh and the Culture That Created It, and Lost Enlightenment: Central Asia’s Golden Age.
