What’s your favorite song? Share it with us—then join the fun at our weekly song fest, where we celebrate your favorites and discover new ones together! Bring your voice, your enthusiasm, and (if you’d like) your “bringalong” instruments—acoustic guitars, banjos, violins, accordions, or anything else that makes music. We’re collecting song suggestions in four categories:

1) Children’s, Folk, Ethnic;
2) Pop, Jazz, Showtunes, Oldies;
3) Religious/Sacred, Opera, Symphonic;
4) Other – surprise us! Want to lead a song or play keyboard for the group?

Let us know! Everyone is welcome—no experience needed, just a love of music and a chance to sing together in good company!

Format: The first day of the semester is organizational. From the long list of songs in the four categories, participants will choose songs for which they will supply links to words, etc. Each week, participants will introduce us to one of the listed songs by sharing personal connections and/or info about the song, its history, its composer, etc. Between meetings, the club’s leaders will assemble the list of weekly selections. For each class, participants will be responsible for printing out the words for that week’s songs and bringing the documents to class.

Coordinators: Sidney Okashige has coordinated a variety of courses. She has sung with a double quartet, The Providence Singers, Noteworthy, and her church choirs. Leslie Mignault sang in an all-woman’s chorus for ten years before moving to RI. She brings her love and knowledge of singing and music to the group. Linda Shamoon has coordinated numerous LLC classes. She studied music in high school and college. and she was an enthusiastic member of the Temple Emanu-El Choral Club.
