Zoom Video Conference | Registration opens 7/27/2026 9:00 AM

If you are interested in helping Providence children improve their school performance, this program will interest you. Each school year, volunteer LLC’ers spend an hour or two a week meeting one-on-one (or in small groups) with an elementary-aged child to help improve their reading or math skills. The tutoring occurs in Providence’s Veazie St. School and in the Harry Kirziran School on Wickenden St. To participate as a tutor, sign up for this two-hour training session on Zoom.

Format: The Zoom session will:
(1) Describe how tutors work with learning coaches and teachers,
(2) Explain the mechanics of meeting with groups of students in grades 2 through 5,
(3) Provide a concise, clear instruction booklet of helpful teaching/tutoring hints,
(4) Assist in completion of required school and state forms.

Resources/Expenses: None.

Coordinators: Janice Golden is an experienced lifelong educator who worked with children through adults in her career. Janice founded and led a preschool program for 40 years. She has also tutored adults and designed curriculum for children. Norma Rossi Mead has served as a volunteer tutor and facilitator/trainer for adult learners and is the founder of the LLC tutoring program at the Veazie Street School.
