Introduction to Mah Jongg (For Beginners only)
Class | Registration opens 7/27/2026 9:00 AM
Ready to learn a game that is equal parts strategy, luck, and dramatically whispering, “Wait… can I call that?” In this beginner-friendly Mah Jongg course, you’ll get comfortable with the tiles, learn how to read the card without blinking in panic, and finally understand what on earth the Charleston is. We’ll cover the basics of setup, gameplay, and etiquette, with plenty of practice and zero judgment if you accidentally fall in love with the Jokers. With clear instruction, guided practice, and a welcoming atmosphere, this course takes the mystery out of the game and helps you build the skills you’ll need to join any Mah Jongg game.
Format: Weeks 1 & 2 will be heavier on learning and practice exercises. By week 3, the balance will shift to actual game playing with strategies, hints and tips shared before each game. During the last few weeks, we’ll introduce fun variations and set-ups for playing with 3 or even 2 players. Optional homework will be to practice on free Mah Jongg websites.
