Stealing Fire: Modern-Day Poets and Greek Myths Ignite
Class | Registration opens 7/27/2026 9:00 AM
Why are contemporary poets drawn to Greek mythology? How and why are they referencing various gods and goddesses? Greek mythology offers poets a unique framework for exploring human emotions. Poets and artists from ancient times to the present have derived inspiration from Greek mythology and have discovered contemporary significance and relevance in classical mythological themes.
In this five-week class, we will learn how poets such as Carol Duffy, A E. Stallings, Billy Collins and others have woven Greek myths into their poetry to create a rich tapestry.
Format: Each participant will choose a topic from the syllabus and be responsible for leading a class discussion on that topic. Coordinators will provide materials to help with the research.
