Art, Lunch, and Conversation
Class | Registration opens 7/27/2026 9:00 AM
Enjoy a relaxed, informal, five-week lunchtime class at the Providence Art Club, where conversation and connection come together through art. The atmosphere will be easygoing and pressure-free. Each week, we will explore and discuss a favorite painting selected by a class member. No prior knowledge of art is needed.
Besides class members own observations, gentle prompts and questions provided by the coordinator will help everyone feel comfortable participating. The goal is to build confidence in talking about art, discovering new ways of looking at images, and enjoying the personal connections art can spark – and to have fun – all in a welcoming, social setting.
Format: Each week, two class members will briefly introduce their favorite painting (selected from a book or the internet,) share a few details about the artist, the subject, etc., and why the work is meaningful to them. (They will each bring ten color copies of their painting for class distribution.) We will then go around the table discussing color, style, and whatever feelings the image may inspire. Personal stories are encouraged. Lunch will be served and enjoyed alongside class discussion.
Resources/Expenses: The week the class member presents, they will provide ten identical 8x11” color prints on plain paper to distribute (at the cost of about 80 cents for each print at Staples). Lunch is Dutch treat, ordered individually from the menu.
Coordinator: Jane Adler spent her career as an internationally syndicated columnist and cartoonist with King Features and Whitegate Features, her weekly columns appearing in most major U.S. newspapers and in many newspapers across Europe. She began as art director at Trinity Square and exhibited her paintings in galleries around the country.
