S25-0327P 1939: HOLLYWOOD'S GOLDEN YEAR
Class | Available (Membership Required)
Film historians, critics, and classic movie fans have long considered 1939 to be the high point of Hollywood’s studio era. In addition to the twin pillars of Gone with the Wind and The Wizard of Oz, 1939 produced a plethora of movies that remain beloved today: Dark Victory, Stagecoach, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Wuthering Heights, Ninotchka, and literally dozens more. This presentation will feature clips of favorite films, anecdotes about their stars and creators, and a consideration of how 1939 fostered this remarkable crop of movies that continue to resonate with us today.
