What really happens after you dial 911? Who is on the other end of the line? This presentation will introduce you to the Prince William County Department of Public Safety Communications (DPSC) and the trained operators who answer the call. The Community Outreach Team will discuss its function and relationship to the PW County fire and police departments, the fire departments of Manassas City and Manassas Park, and the towns of Haymarket, Occoquan, Dumfries, and Quantico. You will learn what is involved in the hiring and training of the tele-communicators that staff the department, the shifts and hours they work, and typical situations they encounter on a daily basis. They will also discuss when it is appropriate to call 911 and the “SMART911” program that is available free of charge to county residents.
