This course will examine the ancient, traditional origins of China today. These origins include moral, cultural and legal philosophies as applied in China's long history of dynastic succession. China's early interactions with the West were filled with conflict and mistrust, leading to first a nationalistic era, and then to communist leadership. The course will conclude with analysis of contemporary China's society and politics.
