Abraham Lincoln lay dead - 7:21 am. April 15, 1865. Just a year earlier on April 8, 1864, Lincoln saw the United States Senate pass a constitutional amendment.  He then saw the proposal through the House of Representatives on January 31, 1864.It was the Thirteenth Amendment, Lincoln’s greatest domestic achievement. The Thirteenth Amendment put the Constitution in line with the Declaration of Independence and gave scope to the words “created equal” and “We the People.” But to get there, we almost destroyed America herself.  The path was long and bloody, but it was a start. The work to fix the original framers failure remained unfinished,– as it remains today.
