The collection includes more than 350 years of American paintings, sculptures and works on paper, including the largest public holdings of art of the American West. Gilcrease volunteers (a.k.a. Horne, Kathy

I began volunteering as a Docent at Gilcrease Museum in the fall of 2011, just a few short months after retiring from the Tulsa City County Library. In my 21 years with the library, I was first a reference librarian, and then later a Family Literacy Specialist. My husband and I own a second home in Taos, New Mexico, where we spend lots of time in the summer and fall. While I’m there, I frequently attend lectures and museum exhibitions related to the Taos Society of Artists. These artists are among my favorites in the Gilcrease collection, and I love sharing stories and biographical information about these Taos legends with Gilcrease visitors.

Patch, Sharon

I am a native-born Oklahoman. Following my career as an educator for 39 years I was looking for volunteer opportunities and first participated in the Tulsa Public Library After School Tutoring Program. I joined the Gillies in 2011 at Gilcrease and found a new passion and appreciation for this museum. As a Docent I have enjoyed sharing these treasures with visitors on site, in school classrooms and with civic organizations. I look forward to introducing The Women of Gilcrease presentation to the OLLI audience in the Spring 2021 semester.

The first half of my career I was a Media Specialist at Haskell, then at Childers Middle School in Broken Arrow, Ok. When my two daughters went off to college I was also ready for a change and I headed off to Principia College in Elsah, Illinois to serve as the Reference and Instruction Librarian, eventually becoming the Director of the Library. I retired back to Oklahoma and am enjoying family, being a Gillie serving at Gilcrease, knitting, and sketching with Urban Sketchers Tulsa.

While the head of the foundation for Eastern Wyoming College from 2009 to 2015, he presented over 40 programs on the life and art of Charlie Russell to service groups and organizations, libraries, historical societies and college classes. Following his retirement in 2015 and moving to Oklahoma, his work as a Gillie has included annual programs to retirement centers in the Tulsa area on Russell’s life and art, as well as to area Rotary Clubs, University of Tulsa history classes, and other groups.
