This interactive presentation explores a positive outlook on older age, showing how later life can be rich in new experiences, personal growth and creativity. Through stories and interviews with everyday people, artists and musicians, attendees will discover ways to stay engaged, cope, and find renewal. Research on age-related changes, resilience and the benefits of integrative art therapies will also be discussed. Students are encouraged to share their creative interests and activities.
Dean VonDras
Dean D. VonDras is a Professor of Psychology. He was awarded a B.A. in Music from Southern Illinois University, and an M.A. and Ph.D in Psychology from Washington University in St. Louis. He has served as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Duke University Behavior Medicine Research Center and Research Associate at the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center at Washington University. Since 2000 he has taught and conducted research at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and has published articles focusing on a variety of adult development and aging topics. His special research interests include the intertwining of health and psychological processes in adult development and aging, social support, ethics for living and spirituality and development. His books include: Celebrating the Arts of Living: Pathways to Joy and Fulfillment in Later Life (2024), Music, Wellness, and Aging: Defining, Directing, and Celebrating Life (2021), and Better Health through Spiritual Practices: A Guide to Religious Behaviors and Perspectives that Benefit Mind and Body (2017).
