In this class we will explore the wonderful world of soft pastels. We will work on sanded paper; practice our drawing skills; and experiment with painting, blending, and mark making techniques. We will also experiment with underpainting with soft pastels using denatured alcohol. Subject matter may include still life and photo reference. If you have good photos you want to use for reference, please bring them!
Supplies (students should please purchase prior to class): Pastels supply list
UArt Sanded Pastel Paper - 9'' x 12'', 500 Grit – or comparable sanded paper
Blick Pastel Set - Set of 48 - or comparable set
Painter’s tape
Kneaded eraser
Paper towels
(Instructor will provide paint brushes, rubbing alcohol, and the cardboard for affixing paper)
NOTE: Returning students should only need to buy the sanded paper
- Materials: Students will purchase their own materials (this allows those who have some or all to not have to re-purchase); list of needed items will be provided online prior to enrollment beginning.
