Audio/Visual, Discussion | This course is completed

[NEW CLASS] This class will present a general history of execution by hanging in New York in the 19th century. As an example of one such proceeding, we'll focus on the story of Samuel Steenburgh, who murdered Jacob Parker on November 17, 1877, and who was hung on April 19, 1878. An estimated 15,000 people attended the public execution as part of a pleasant spring day's outing.
