This course is for anybody who may be curious about how the development of genetic technologies is expanding our understanding of the origins of humankind, revolutionizing healthcare—this past year saw the first approval of human genome editing for therapeutic benefit and new treatments for Alzheimer’s disease—and more. We will also dip a toe into the world of Artificial Intelligence and learn of its use in medicine.

    Iain Sim has a PhD degree in Microbiology and 30+ years of R&D experience in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry. He has been leading Osher courses since 2012, interspersing studies on notable historical figures—Margaret Thatcher, Robert Oppenheimer, John Maynard Keynes—with science courses on the human genome and advances in genetic technology.
