[NEW COURSE] [MULTI-PART SERIES] We will discuss competing conceptions of God; classical and contemporary arguments for and against God’s existence; the relation between faith and reason; the relation between evil and God’s existence and nature; the relation between human freedom and God’s omnipotence and omniscience; the nature, possibility, and believability of miracles; the relation between science and religion; and death and the possibility of immortality. Participation in Part 1 of this course (Fall 2024) is not a pre-requisite.

Walt Soffer, Ph.D., is professor emeritus of Philosophy at SUNY Geneseo and recipient of the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. His teaching and publications have been principally in the areas of ancient philosophy, modern philosophy, phenomenology and existentialism, history of political philosophy, philosophy of religion, interdisciplinary humanities, and ethics.
