[NEW COURSE] This course examines the economic, political, social, and cultural aspects of US relations with the nations of the Middle East. Prior to WWI our interests in the Middle East were education, commerce, and religious missions. Following WWII the region became increasingly important to us. We will discuss Truman and the creation of Israel; Arab nationalism; the energy crisis of the 1970s; the First Palestinian Intifada; the Gulf War; and Osama bin Laden, 9/11, and its aftermath. Marie Levin
After a career in clinical laboratory science, Marie Levin enjoys studying history. She has led courses in the history of Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, Greece, Rome, and Russia as well as the Vikings and the history of forensics.
