F10M The Status of American Democracy (Hybrid/In-Person)
In-Person | Available (Membership Required)
[NEW CLASS] Since ratification of the Constitution in 1788, the United States has been viewed as a nation governed by liberal democratic principles. Turbulent times during the intervening centuries have challenged the resilience of our democracy. This course will examine the civic foundations of democracy, expansion of presidential power over time, and will demonstrate how confidence in the health of American democracy has declined in the 21st century and why, since the election of Donald Trump, the topic is timely. Are you optimistic about democracy in the United States? Audio/Visual, Discussion, Lecture
