F25M Intro to Calligraphy: The Writing Is on the Wall (In-Person)

[NEW CLASS] This interactive and informal workshop will introduce participants to the lowercase letters of the Chancery Cursive (Italic) alphabet using calligraphy markers. Following demonstrations of letters on the wall of the room and using provided model sheets, participants will quickly gain an understanding of the systematic design of the Italic alphabet, its proportional relationships, and subtle nuances. This is a relaxing class that is perfect for those who are new to calligraphy or lettering systems. Audio/Visual, Writing, Workshop

This course has a required $5 fee, payable online when you register, for calligraphy markers/supplies that will be provided to you by the course leader.

Lorrie Frear
Lorrie Frear is a professor in the School of Design in the College of Art and Design at RIT where she teaches typography, calligraphy, and other design courses. She is committed to creating collaborative interdisciplinary learning experiences for students within RIT and other universities. Lorrie has led calligraphy workshops at many universities and organizations around the US. In her classes there is an emphasis on current design issues/challenges, creativity, critical thinking, individual development, and a passion for lifelong learning.
