F87E The People’s Art: Folkways in the Russian North (Zoom; OLLI @ U of A)
Zoom | Available (Membership Required)
Throughout the history of the Russian people, unnamed folk furnished their homes, wove their cloth, and carved their tools. Equally unnamed artists embellished these necessary items in distinctive ways, creating a colorful world of decorative arts. This series of four sessions highlights the most important of these folk forms: the world of wood, textile art, communication on paper, and lacquer boxes.
[PRESENTER] Carol Veldman Rudie credits her interest in Russian and Soviet art to 20 years of volunteering at The Museum of Russian Art. She continues to serve as a museum guide there, although retired from her position as outreach education coordinator. Throughout, she uses her college teaching skills to research and to create presentations on various aspects of culture, history, and art. She has her MA from the University of Minnesota and additional graduate work that included Art History.
*This registration item is ZOOM ONLY; there is not an in-person section of this course. It is offered and run by The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Arizona.*
