W30W The Struggle to Survive: Lakota Sioux of the Northern Great Plains (Zoom)
Zoom | Registration opens 12/16/2025 10:00 AM EST
In the mid-1800s the world of the Lakota Sioux of the Northern Great Plains was challenged as the unceasing wave of white immigration threatened its territories. The ensuing decades-long struggle would create the western states we know today but spell the end to the Lakota way of life. We will examine that struggle not only from our own written history but also from Native American oral histories. A third view comes from the halls of Washington and its failed Indian policies and the political maneuverings in Congress to win or maintain control of Republican or Democratic policies of the US government through political control of the new western states.
