The class introduces masterworks of Islam through the ages beginning with the foundational architecture from the Middle East and North Africa. We will look at the classic monuments of Iraq and Spain, Turkey, central Asia, Persia, and south Asia. We will also cover the great paintings of the eastern Islamic world.
Katherine Harper has a PhD in the art history of India from UCLA. She retired from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles after 37 years. She has lived and traveled extensively throughout Asia.
