[NEW COURSE] Would you rather I gave you a present or gifted you one? Is there a difference? Should I call, write, text or message you? Languages change, sometimes rapidly, sometimes slowly, in pronunciation, vocabulary, meaning, and grammatical structures. We will explore changes in English and how people seem to have made these shifts and reacted to them. There are some surprisingly odd things we have done with the English language, some of which turn out to make sense emotionally and socially. While word changes are something we encounter (often to our annoyance), there have been striking changes in structures that we would expect to be universal. Discussion, Lecture
